Can You Get The Holy Spirit Back? (Yes! No!)
If you’re asking: can you get the Holy Spirit back, then this post is for you.
The Bible is clear on who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and how to receive Him and also how you can have a fruitful walk with Him.
Everything is beautiful about the Holy Spirit.
But in this post on can you get the Holy Spirit back, we are going to look closely at whether the Holy Spirit departs from individuals and if He does, what can you do to have Him back.
Ready, let’s go.
But first:
Who Is The Holy Spirit?
The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead, co-equal with the Father and the Son. (Genesis 1:26)
Plus, the Holy Spirit is the active force of God who carries out all of God’s operations. (See Genesis 1:3)
He helped in bringing about God’s creative word when God said: “let there be.”
Foremost of His work is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Yes, the Holy Spirit was the one that raised Jesus from the dead.
And of course, He was the one that worked on the word of God that brought about His birth (He overshadowed Mary to bring about Christ’s conception the instant Mary received and believed the word spoken to her by the angel Gabriel), and also anointed Him with power for ministry.
Next; is His work of regeneration of the human spirit which is the new birth.
Today, He indwells the believer in Christ.
He also anoints each believer with power for their specific callings and ministries.

What The New Testament Teaches About The Holy Spirit
The Bible is clear that a believer cannot lose the Holy Spirit.
The New Testament teaches the indwelling of the Spirit (See 1 John 2:27, John 14:16, Ephesians 1:13-14)
He’s God’s seal on the believer designating him especially for the resurrection.
He does not depart, nor leave the believer.
Jesus Himself said:
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17, NIV)
The Holy Spirit as promised by Jesus, when He comes will not leave you but abides with the believer forever.
So how can you get the Holy Spirit back when He never left in the first place?
It is not consistent with Scripture that the Holy Spirit does leave believers.
It is not in His nature to leave any believer.
But it is possible to lose a sense of His presence.
But what about Samson and King Saul who lost the Holy Spirit, you may ask. (Judges 16:20, 1 Samuel 16:14)
And why did David pray for God not to take the Holy Spirit from him (Psalm 51:11)
Those cases refer to special anointing of the Holy Spirit on the individual’s life.
The Holy Spirit In The Old Testament
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit did not indwell individuals in the same way that He indwells believers’ in the New.
Most often, He comes upon the individual to accomplish a particular feat and afterwards He lifts.
He anointed and empowered them for service as He does believers’ today, but He did not take up permanent residence in them.
Reason being that Jesus at that time had not paid for the sins and salvation of the human persons; so God could not legally take up permanent residence in the human body.
When Jesus died, rose again and ascended the throne, God having accepted the redemption price (Jesus’ blood) and was satisfied, was then legally free to send the Holy Spirit to permanently reside in and with the believer.
Today, the Holy Spirit permanent residence is the individual believer’s body and the Church corporate.
He does not leave you and cannot leave you, not even when you sin.

Can You Get The Holy Spirit Back?
Can you get the Holy Spirit back?
He never left you in the first place.
He indwells you permanently.
But you can lose a sense and intensity of his presence.
Why, because of sin or disobedience.
You had grieved Him and may be had even quenched Him, for that reason, His manifest presence diminished or was withdrawn, but He did not leave you
Now, if that’s what exactly happened to you, then you can have that presence back.
How, through repentance!
Plus, through faith!
You must understand that God is a faith God and He ordained that the believer walks by faith and not by feelings. (See Romans 1:17, 2 Corinthians 5:7)
Put your feeling and emotions aside and believe by faith that Holy Spirit’s glory is back on you if you have repented.
The Anointing Of The Holy Spirit
Another thing you need to understand about the Holy Spirit is that He gives special anointing and enablement to individuals for service or ministry.
And it is possible to lose this special anointing.
That was what Samson lost, that was what David was praying to not lose after his sin of adultery with Bathsheba and murder of the husband, Uriah.
But God restored Him.
The anointing came back on him afterwards.
How did I know? Because he went on to winning wars and having victories over God’s enemies afterwards; of course he was only able to accomplish those feats because the Holy Spirit was still on him.
So it may be that you may have lost an anointing, a special empowerment by the Spirit to get things done for God.
This may be because of negligence, stubbornness, not willing to repent even after the Holy Spirit had warned you severally about changing your ways.
Of course is that the Holy Spirit does not withdraw His presence without first warning you to repent of whatever sin that is grieving Him.
But when you continue in it, He has no choice than to withdraw His presence which is His way of showing disapproval to your act, but not necessarily your person.
What do you make of a pastor who keeps committing fornication with sisters in church!
If he does not repent after several warnings from the Holy Spirit, He will withdraw the anointing on His office and then leave him exposed to Satan and witchcraft.
And when Satan comes in, He corrupts the anointing.
