We wrote a while ago on the immense benefits of fasting and prayer, but today, we are going to be looking at scriptures to read while fasting.
Did you ever think and wonder about what exact scriptures you should read and meditate on while waiting on God in fasting?
You are not alone in that.
While there are no hard and fast rules as to particular scriptures to read while fasting, yet there are some general rules to follow in your reading of scriptures when waiting on God in fasting.
The general rule is this: the purpose and motivation for a fast will determine the scriptures that you will read while fasting.
Another beautiful practice is to wait on the Lord, look in your spirit and let the Holy Spirit inspire you with scriptures and bible passages you should read.
Another practice that I love is to look for a particular character in scripture that have had to deal with the exact thing that I am dealing with in my fast and then read and meditate on the actions, words and inactions of that bible character.
For instance, you know that King David fasted on certain instances in his life and for certain reasons, so if the reason for your fast is related to the life and circumstances of King David that motivated his fast, then read about him, what he did, how he fasted and what he prayed.
Same thing is true in the life and ministry of Moses, Elijah, Jesus, the disciples, Paul and many others. If the motivation of your fast has a resemblance of theirs, then they the character you should read and meditate on as you fast.
What is the motivation for your fast, that is what should determine the scriptures that you are to read and meditate on while fasting.
That said.
Let’s now go look up some scriptures to read while fasting so you can have a focused, successful fast.
